Play is Children's Work

I have created this blog as a way to share my teaching and ideas with parents, guardians and educators about the wonderful world of Kindergarten. I am currently on a one year teaching exchange in Australia. This blog will serve as a way to share my experiences and keep in touch with my class in Toronto, Canada. Select the Australia page to see whats happening down under.

Welcome to my blog

My name is Elyssa Leventhal and I am a Kindergarten teacher with the Toronto District School Board. The goal of this blog is promote the importance of play based learning and inquiry as a way for young children to learn. Children learn best when their ideas are valued and when we focus on their interests and strengths. You can see young children thriving in an environment which respects their questions and encourages them to seek answers.

I try to update the blog at least once a week with relevant pictures of the hands on activities that children are engaged in within the classroom.

This blog is also a way to communicate with families by sharing resources and posting updates of what is happening in the classroom. There are a variety of helpful articles on child development, play, inquiry, literacy and numeracy activities, community resources, online activities for children and so much more.

Please look through the different pages. I hope you enjoy the blog and please feel free to write any comments or suggest a link or article.
