A great week in Kindergarten

Mekai made a recipe for making Gingerbread people, we made then out of playdough and in the sand box.

We had a great time today making Gingerbread people. We made a graph of what type of person we wanted to make.

We experimented with different materials in the water table to see what sinks and floats. We documented our findings on paper.

We used measuring tools to see how long our worms are.

We had fun making airplanes and pretended to fly them to other countires.

Ms. Dutton made playdough with the class, here is the recipe. It is special playdough that smells like Gingerbread cookies.

We created a giant city today, it started when some children drew airplanes and then added a run way. Then children added many other things to it such as, parks, road, signs, etc.

The children found a large map and wanted to learn about other countries. We started by talking about where we are from or where our families are from. We marked these locations on the map with a sticker. We created flags of many countries. The children have enjoyed creating flags and going on parades with them in the classroom. We have been reading books about countries around the world and watching videos to learn more. This week we watched a video about pyramids in Egypt, we went on a Safari in Tanzania and we saw how kites are built in China.

Our flag making table.

We went outside on a nature walk to observe the seasons changing and noticed the trees in our school yard have lost most of their leaves and some have a few left. We sketched what we saw in our inquiry lab books. We noticed many birds nests in the trees and will be making bird houses out of recycled materials this week. On our walk we collected a variety of natural materials such as sticks, pine cones, wood chips, leaves and rocks. We practised our sorting skills by putting the materials into piles. We will be using them this week to create art.

This week the Senior Kindergarten students read the book " Sally's Pizza Shop". They did a great job retelling the story in sequence.

Take a look at our pumpkin seeds they are really growing.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, or Veterans Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty since World War I. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918; hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918.

On this day, we will be remembering those who served our country and fought for our freedoms. We remember those who died in the line of duty to protect our country. Please take some time to remember and honour those who have fallen and those who are currently in military or peace operations around the world.

A red poppy is a symbol that we wear to remember and honour this day of significance.

Below is a link to a video that is generally aired on television and is listened to on this special day.

Inquiry and Play in Room Three

We made the Three Little Pigs houses out of recycled materials. Children enjoyed making puppets and using them to retell the story.

The children were interested in learning about growing seeds, they had the idea to plant the apple seeds from our snack. We watched a few videos about how to plant and take of apple trees. We are going to take very good care of our plants with lots of sun, and water.

Many children have been interested in learning about how airplanes fly. We have many non-fiction books in our room and have been busy making planes out of various materials such as Lego, and paper.

This is our space centre. We converted the dramatic play area into it. We made many beautiful galaxies which you can see hung  on the wall on black paper. We spent today visiting the moon and the planet of fish. The children had a lot of fun pretending to be astronauts discovering new planets.
